«The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is one of the largest youth programs in the world that enable young people aged 14 to 24 to overcome challenges, encourage them and recognize their achievement. Here, from coast to coast to coast since 1963, we have helped young people set goals and take control of their lives and their future. The classroom is not the only place where we need to develop the potential of Canada’s greatest wealth. We want to reach young Canadians across the country, offer them our framework that allows them to plan their lives and equip them with non-technical skills. Today, the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award — Canada exists throughout the country. Annually, more than 20,000 adolescents and 2,600 group leaders are involved in the program.»

The members of the Quebec’s local council of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Interna-
tional Award - Canada has an important mandate that includes the establishment and implemen-
tation of a financing strategy. In 2021, it was summarily evaluated by the former office of
the Quebec Branch that a contribution of $30,000 from one or more ideas from the Board
would be sufficient to largely promote the involvement of young Quebecers to take part
in the Award and to realize their 4 respective spheres of activity, which are: service to the
community, skills development, Fitness and adventure travel.
As a personal project supported by the Award, our mission is to undertake the ascent of
Mount Kilimanjaro, the 4th highest peak* in the world, during the month of June 2023, with a
small group, under the theme of the 4 spheres of activity of the Award (sport, skill,
community service and adventure travel) in order to raise funds and set an example for young
people who in turn want to reach heights in their lives, through of the Duke of Edinburgh’s In-
ternational Award - Canada. #Infinite Potential
In collaboration with a film crew and several partners, the adventure will take the
form of a followed ascent of the roof of Africa, followed by camera for film production purposes.
The entire operation will have to be seen as the completion of the last years of commemoration,
namely: The 100th anniversary of our founder (2021), The Commemoration of the Death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada (2022) and the 60th anniversary of the Award in Canada (2023). These commemorations will be
omnipresent in the ascension.
